Cabinet in River Ridge, LA

River Ridge is an unincorporated community and census-designated place of 13,591 people in Jefferson Parish, stretched along about three miles of Jefferson Highway with Harahan to the east, Kenner to the northwest, Metairie to the north and the Mississippi River on its southwestern side. The land was developed by French colonists and their descendants in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries as sugar plantations laid out in the traditional long-lot pattern, narrow at the river and running deep behind it, worked by enslaved labour. The Trudeau and Sauvé families were the major landowners, and Pierre Sauvé's plantation here was called Providence; Sauve Road still follows that alignment and remains a main thoroughfare. In 1849 the crude river levee failed in what became known as Sauvé's Crevasse, one of the more serious flood events in the area's history. The community covers 3.55 square miles, about a fifth of it water, and its public spaces include Little Farms Park and Jesse Owens Park. In 2019 its Little League team became the first from Louisiana to win the World Series final.

Lot sizes on the old long-lot alignments are generous by Jefferson Parish standards, and the houses on them tend to be larger and better maintained than the parish average, which shows up in what people ask for. Islands are the most common project here. We start from clearance rather than from a picture: 36 inches of walkway minimum, 42 to 48 on any side with a dishwasher or oven door swinging into it, and an honest conversation when the room cannot take the island somebody has already fallen in love with. Seating geometry is the other half — a 15-inch overhang at counter height, 12 at bar height, and concealed steel brackets carrying any stone that reaches past about a foot, because visible wooden corbels eat the knee room you just paid for. Storage in the island gets planned rather than left over: deep pot drawers on heavy-rated slides, a trash pull-out, vertical dividers for boards and trays. Where these houses sit on piers we shim to a laser line and taper the toe kick, so the top is flat even where the floor is not.

Cabinet work we do in River Ridge, LA

New Orleans Elite Cabinets covers the same range of work in River Ridge that we do in New Orleans — nothing is carved out because the address is a few miles up the road:

  • Custom Kitchen CabinetsCustom kitchen cabinets in a New Orleans house have to solve two problems at once: the humidity, and the fact that very little in an older house here is level. We design, build, and install full custom kitchens from 3/4-inch moisture-resistant furniture-grade plywood, then shim and scribe them into rooms that have been quietly settling on soft ground for a century.
  • Bathroom VanitiesA custom bathroom vanity is the one piece of cabinetry in the house that lives under a water supply in a room that turns into a steam bath twice a day, which is why it usually fails first. We build vanities with sealed interiors, a solid plywood floor in the sink base, and hardware picked for a wet room instead of a dry one.
  • Walk-In Closets & WardrobesWalk-in closets and wardrobe systems return more per dollar than anything else we build, because the room already exists and hardly anybody is using it properly. A single rod with one shelf above it wastes roughly half the volume of a typical closet, and replacing it with a designed layout usually doubles what the same footprint holds.
  • Garage Cabinets & StorageGarage cabinets turn the least organized room on the property into the most useful one, and around here they have to survive conditions no interior cabinet ever meets. We build garage storage in moisture-resistant plywood or powder-coated steel, wall-hung wherever the framing allows, with finishes and hardware chosen for a space that is hot, damp, and occasionally underwater.
  • Home Office & Built-InsHome office and built-in cabinetry is what turns an awkward spare bedroom, a dead corner, or a blank parlour wall into the part of the house people comment on. Built-ins are a different product from furniture pushed against a wall: they use the full depth and height available, scribe tight to the plaster, and lose the dust gap and the wobble.
  • Entertainment Centers & Media WallsEntertainment centers and media walls are the built-in most likely to be designed around a television that will be replaced in four years, which is the one mistake worth planning against. We build media walls that hide the equipment, handle the heat and cabling properly, and are dimensioned so the next screen still fits without a rebuild.
