Cabinet in River Ridge, LA

River Ridge is an unincorporated community and census-designated place of 13,591 people in Jefferson Parish, stretched along about three miles of Jefferson Highway with Harahan to the east, Kenner to the northwest, Metairie to the north and the Mississippi River on its southwestern side.

The land was developed by French colonists and their descendants in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries as sugar plantations laid out in the traditional long-lot pattern, narrow at the river and running deep behind it, worked by enslaved labor.

The Trudeau and Sauvé families were the major landowners, and Pierre Sauvé's plantation here was called Providence; Sauve Road still follows that alignment and remains a main thoroughfare. In 1849 the crude river levee failed in what became known as Sauvé's Crevasse, one of the more serious flood events in the area's history.

The community covers 3.55 square miles, about a fifth of it water, and its public spaces include Little Farms Park and Jesse Owens Park. In 2019 its Little League team became the first from Louisiana to win the World Series final.

Lot sizes on the old long-lot alignments are generous by Jefferson Parish standards, and the houses on them tend to be larger and better maintained than the parish average, which shows up in what people ask for. Islands are the most common project here.

We start from clearance rather than from a picture: 36 inches of walkway minimum, 42 to 48 on any side with a dishwasher or oven door swinging into it, and an honest conversation when the room cannot take the island somebody has already fallen in love with.

Seating geometry is the other half — a 15-inch overhang at counter height, 12 at bar height, and concealed steel brackets carrying any stone that reaches past about a foot, because visible wooden corbels eat the knee room you just paid for.

Storage in the island gets planned rather than left over: deep pot drawers on heavy-rated slides, a trash pull-out, vertical dividers for boards and trays. Where these houses sit on piers we shim to a laser line and taper the toe kick, so the top is flat even where the floor is not.

Cabinet work we do in River Ridge, LA

New Orleans Elite Cabinets covers the same range of work in River Ridge that we do in New Orleans — nothing is carved out because the address is a few miles up the road:

  • Soft-Close & Pull-Out SystemsSoft-close and pull-out systems are the mechanical difference between cabinetry that feels expensive and cabinetry that only looks it. They are also the difference between hardware that still works in twenty years and hardware that gets sloppy in three.
  • CountertopsCountertops are the surface you touch more than any other in the house, and picking one is mostly a question of how much maintenance you are honestly willing to do. We template, fabricate, and install quartz, granite, solid surface, and butcher block, and we set them on cabinetry that has been leveled properly so the seams stay tight instead of opening up by Christmas.
  • Islands & Breakfast BarsKitchen islands and breakfast bars are the piece everyone gathers around and the piece most often sized wrong, because it is the one element people specify by how it looks instead of by how the room moves. We design islands starting from clearances and traffic flow, then work outward to storage and seating.
  • Wine & Bar CabinetsWine and bar cabinets are the smallest thing we build that collects the most compliments, and in this climate the wine half of that comes with a technical warning most shops will not give you. We build wine storage, wet bars, dry bars, beverage centers, and coffee stations, and we will tell you plainly what a cabinet can and cannot do for a bottle.
  • Mudroom & Entryway StorageMudroom and entryway storage decides whether the first ten seconds of coming home are pleasant or aggravating, and it is almost always the last thing anybody thinks about. We build drop zones from a full wall of lockers down to a single well-made bench in a back hall that is only four feet wide.
  • Commercial Cabinetry & MillworkCommercial cabinetry and millwork is a different trade from residential work, built to different standards and expected to survive use no home kitchen ever sees. We design, build, and install commercial casework for offices, medical and dental practices, clinics, retail, restaurants, hotels, schools, and churches across Greater New Orleans.
